The conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East and the Sahel and their consequences for humanitarian principles

The war in Ukraine has triggered a renewed debate in Germany and internationally on the meaning and limits of neutrality in humanitarian action. Is the humanitarian principle of neutrality an unreachable ideal or a necessity? Are only humanity and impartiality really essential for humanitarian action?

Caritas international, Médecins Sans Frontières and the Centre for Humanitarian Action invite to a closed event for non-governmental organisations from the humanitarian sector: In the format of a roundtable, first the state of the debate, basic definitions and a historical classification of the principle of neutrality in humanitarian action will be presented, before entering a discussion with the participants on the basis of three concrete dilemmas.

Format:
Closed event in presence, Chatham House Rule

Attendance:
Participation is free of charge and by invitation of the organisers only.
If you are interested in participating, please send an email to info@chaberlin.org and we will check whether there is still capacity available at short notice.
