Whether in Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza, Syria or Myanmar – all over the world, children are displaced by wars and conflicts, separated from their families and threatened by hunger. They are victims of landmines and explosive weapons, of exploitation and instrumentalisation and cut off from schooling and education. As a result, their increasing acute humanitarian need often leads to chronic poverty and a downward spiral.

Today, 330 million children worldwide live in extreme poverty. Half of them live in areas where there is armed conflict. 200 million children are unable to develop properly because they are undernourished. 86 million girls are unable to go to school.

Although the plight of children is often addressed in public communication, their special needs are often not taken into account in the allocation of aid funds and the serious consequences of reduced budgets and cancelled programmes are far too rarely considered politically.

Boris Mijatovic, Spokesperson for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Action for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and Michael Brand, Chairman of the Working Group on Human Rights and Humanitarian Action of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag are inviting representatives from politics and humanitarian non-governmental organisations to share their experiences and expertise.

Participation is by invitation only.
