In 2021, the IFRC and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) launched the Climate and Environment Charter for Humanitarian Organizations to step up the response to climate and environmental crises. Over the last year, more than 230 humanitarian organisations have signed the Charter, from local NGOs in over 80 countries to international organizations, National Red Cross Red Crescent Societies, UN agencies, and NGO consortiums.
In its 5th commitment the signatories commit to work collaboratively across the humanitarian sector and beyond to strengthen climate and environmental action. What does effective collaboration take in this arena? What are our main tasks leading up to COP27? And what comes first – humanitarian crisis or climate crisis?
On this topic, the German Red Cross and CHA invited to a luncheon with Jagan Chapagain, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
